Dieting can be a frustrating and unpleasant experience, leaving you feeling hungry and irritable. Our practitioner-guided weight loss treatment program provides GLP-1 medications that are clinically proven to reduce hunger and cravings, increase satiety, and improve metabolic health.
Semaglutide is FDA approved to treat type 2 diabetes under the brand names Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus. Semaglutide is also FDA approved for use in managing weight.
Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, which means it mimics the GLP-1 hormone and makes you feel less hungry. It “turns off the food noise” in your brain and allows you to keep from snacking as much and eating smaller portion meals.
When you eat, your digestive tract releases the GLP-1 hormone, prompting the body to create more insulin. It can also send fullness signals to the brain.
Tirzepatide is sold under the brand name Mounjaro and Zepbound. It is FDA approved to treat type 2 diabetes and weight management. It’s both a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 receptor agonist. Tirzepatide mimics the GLP-1 hormone and the GIP hormone. The GIP hormone can also trigger insulin creation and sensations of fullness.
In clinical trial studies lasting 72 weeks, patients taking semaglutide had an average weight loss of 15% and tirzepatide had an average of 21% weight loss, though individual results may vary.
The side effects of tirzepatide and semaglutide are similar, likely because they work in a similar manner. Moderate side effects of tirzepatide and semaglutide can include:
Compounded medications are a patient-specific medication created in a State Board of Pharmacy or FDA licensed compounding facility per a prescription from a licensed healthcare professional. Compounded drugs are required to exclusively use ingredients from FDA-licensed facilities and test sterile compounds for potency, sterility, and purity.
While compounded drugs are 100% legal, they do not undergo pre-market approval from the FDA as they are not made in large batches for the public, compounds are made based on specific orders from a medical professional. Because of that the dose, route of administration, and efficacy may differ from commercially available, brand-name drugs.
*Merbella Med Spa works exclusivly with licensed sterile compounding pharmacies in the United States.*
